Many players I know would dread the thought of taking the driver out of the bag for a fairway shot. They would have little confidence in it and have missed the shot in their minds before they have even addressed the ball.
This is totally unnecessary, for it is not a difficult shot to play.
Study it a little. The clubhead being made of metal doesn't make it that obvious, but the sole of the club acts just like a metal sole plate. Like the ones you saw on the old timber heads of ancient history. It is understanding this feature that makes the shot successful.
Play your normal full swing; but play it to contact with the ground half an inch behind the ball.
Now remember that sole plate, because it will do the rest for you.
It will cut the surface just sufficiently for the face of the club to take that ball and send it dead
straight as though you had hit the ball off the tee.
